Definition: CeBIT

(CEntrum der Büro und InformationsTechnik, Center for Office and Information Technology) At one time, the largest information technology trade show in the world. Organized by Deutsche Messe, AG, Hannover, Germany, CeBIT was held annually as the computer technology part of the Hannover Fair trade show. In 1995, CeBIT drew more than 750,000 attendees.

Attendance slowly dwindled and the last show was in 2018. Part of the problem was the town of Hannover, which was too small to accommodate the huge crowds, and many attendees had to share a room with too many people or find lodging up to an hour or more away.

CeBIT U.S.A.
In 2003, CeBIT made its debut in the U.S. taking the June time slot previously occupied by TECHXNY/PC EXPO. There were 12,264 attendees and 362 exhibitors. After a few attempts to make CeBIT America take hold, the U.S. venue was discontinued in 2005.
