Definition: COPPA


(Children's and Teens Online Privacy Protection Act of 1998) A federal law that became effective in 2000 regarding the online collection of personal information about children up to and including age 12.

The Kids Online Safety and Privacy Act (KOSPA) is another bill that combines the Kids Online Safety Act (KOSA) with COPPA and extends the age to 15. As of June 2025, it was passed by the Senate but was not introduced to the House.
