Definition: CID


(1) (Content IDentifier) The primary identifier in distributed file systems, including IPFS, IPLD, libp2p and Filecoin. The CID contains a codec and multihash. The codec defines the algorithm required to decode the data (audio, video, etc.), and the multihash describes the type of hash. See IPFS, Filecoin, codec and multihash format.

(2) (Configuration, Installation and Distribution) IBM software for controlling software distribution throughout a network from a central source.
