Definition: CAMM

(1) For CAM-related terms (one M), see CAM.

(2) (Compression Attached Memory Module) A successor to the SODIMM laptop memory module. Designed by Dell and first deployed in certain Dell laptops in 2023, the CAMM takes less room within the case. There is only one CAMM in a laptop. Although another SODIMM can be plugged into an empty SODIMM slot to increase the RAM, the CAMM has to be replaced to change memory capacity. See memory module.

CAMM vs. SODIMM
The CAMM holds all the RAM chips and attaches to the motherboard with six screws. Two screws on the silver plate press the CAMM onto an interposer board with contacts, which can be switched out to support SODIMMs. (Bottom image courtesy of PCMag.com.)
