Definition: Bytesaver


A programmable memory board for Altair personal computers. Developed by Cromemco in 1976, the board contained electrically erasable PROMs (EEPROMs) that held 8KB of storage. The Bytesaver is said to be the first alternative storage to paper tape. See Cromemco, EEPROM and early storage.
