Definition: Bucky Bit

A way to make a keyboard enter additional commands by pressing a modifier key such as Control and Alt in conjunction with some other key. Named after Niklaus "Bucky" Wirth in the 1960s, these key combinations add an eight bit to the ASCII code. Holding down two modifier keys is a "Double Bucky." See modifier key, Windows key and ASCII. See also Buckyball.
