Definition: Bloomberg terminal

A computer terminal and real-time financial information delivery system. Introduced in 1982 by Michael Bloomberg, who had previously been a partner at Salomon Brothers, the Bloomberg terminal accesses a wealth of financial data. Although people commonly refer to the terminal, a huge data acquisition system is what makes the terminal indispensable in financial institutions.

The keyboard has dedicated keys for financial transactions, which made trades easier to execute and was one reason for the system's huge success early on. (Image courtesy of Bloomberg Terminal Museum and licensed under Creative Commons Attribution 2.0 Generic.)
