Definition: BTC-e


(BTC-Everything) A Russian crypto exchange founded in 2011. Although aimed at Russia, BTC-e servers were located in the U.S. In 2017, U.S. authorities took down BTC-e for being a money laundering site. To compensate customers, WEX tokens were created; however, all funds were later seized by the U.S. government. In late 2022, $165 million in bitcoins attributed to BTC-e were sent to several unknown wallets. See Mt. Gox and crypto misfortunes.
