Definition: Axie Infinity
A popular crypto-based game from Vietnamese game developer Sky Mavis, in which players collect and raise Axie fantasy pets. Axies are bred to create offspring that can be sold in the Axie NFT marketplace, and they are used to battle other Axies. Introduced in 2018, the tokens are AXS (Axie Infinity Shards) and SLP (Small Love Potion), which are earned by playing the game and used to pay for breeding. Thousands of people play Axie Infinity every day.
Battles on the Planet Lunacia
In 2022, the game was enhanced with the fantasy planet of Lunacia, which is divided into thousands of NFT-based plots that players can rent, buy or improve. In addition, a Lunacia software development kit (SDK) enables third parties to create games using Axie Infinity assets.
An Unfortunate Attack
In late March 2022, more than $600 million was stolen from the Ronin sidechain that is used by Axie Infinity to process transactions more quickly than the main Ethereum network.
