Definition: Avant Stellar keyboard

An earlier, high-quality and innovative PC keyboard from Creative Vision Technologies. The successor to the popular OmniKey keyboards developed by Northgate Computers, Avant Stellars used individual switches underneath each key, providing an exceptional feel that is missing on most keyboards. Its unique layout put the function keys on the side with a duplicate row on top set to Shift+Function (see below). All the keys were programmable.

Although no longer made, there is a used market for both Northgate and Avant Stellar keyboards, and the thousands of people who still use them daily can have them refurbished at various repair facilities. See mechanical keyboard, premium keyboard, PC keyboard and keyboard.

Avant Stellar Keyboard
In a class by itself, touch typists love the feel of the keys. This unit is going strong after more than a decade.

Shift+Function Keys
Pressing any of the SF function keys on the top row was the same as pressing the Shift key along with the function key. All function keys could be programmed to generate multiple keystrokes when pressed.
