A conference held at the Asilomar Conference Grounds in 2017 to establish guidelines for research in artificial intelligence. With more than a hundred people in attendance, the result of the conference was the "23 Asilomar AI Principles," which provide guidelines for safe AI. For example, all efforts should be made to avoid an AI arms race; AI should not be used to undermine the democratic process; and humans should retain control of AI in judicial decision-making. See
