Definition: Ascend chip

A line of GPUs from China-based Huawei that are used for AI processing. Ascend chips compete directly with NVIDIA's GPU line. The Ascend 910 was launched in 2019, followed by the 910B in 2023.

In order to achieve performance similar to NVIDIA's H200, the Ascend 910C combines two processors, each connected to four HBM memory banks. See CloudMatrix 384, SuperCluster, H100 and Huawei.

The Ascend 910C

Launched in 2025, the 910C contains two processors and eight memory banks. Expected in 2026, the Ascend 910D and 920 are the next generation. See die.
