Definition: Apple in China

A New York Times best-selling book by Patrick McGee that is a fascinating account of Apple's manufacturing processes in China. Not only does it detail how Apple was able to mass produce so much product so quickly, but it portrays a country growing faster than any other on earth.

Although the iPhone was an outstanding success in the U.S., very few Americans realized how popular it was in China and especially how integrated Apple and China had become in order to manufacture millions of devices from scratch. Not only did Apple put its own machinery in Chinese factories, it trained millions of Chinese workers, which, over the years, turned China into a tech powerhouse.

Apple in India
Starting in 2017, Apple began shifting some of its iPhone production from China to India. It is estimated that most of the iPhones sold to U.S. customers will be made in India by the end of 2026. Foxconn and Tata Electronics are the manufacturers. See Apple.

Apple Helped China Immensely
Released in 2025, McGee's book details not only what it took to make billions of Apple devices, but how much Apple helped China become a technology powerhouse. China was developing lightning fast and Apple can be credited with much of that change in a country with a very different culture than the West. The wolf on the cover symbolizes China's aggressiveness since the early 2010s. See yellow cow.
