Apple's second generation of smartwatches, introduced in September 2016 along with the iPhone 7. The Apple Watch models became Apple Watch Series 2 but with aluminum cases rather than stainless steel. The original Sport models with plastic bands turned into the Apple Watch Series 1.
Although officially not called Series 2 models, the Apple Watch Edition changed to a ceramic case rather than gold plated, and a stainless steel Hermes model with a variety of designer bands was added. Also introduced was a water-resistant Nike+ model that features a sport band and Nike+ fitness app. Except for Series 1 models, all second-generation watches include GPS, a faster CPU and a brighter screen. However, all models feature the watchOS 3 operating system, which added numerous enhancements, including more watch faces. The OS is also faster and provides support for handwriting on the face of the watch. See Apple Watch
