Definition: Amazon Go

Amazon's no-checkout grocery store. Using computer vision, artificial intelligence (AI) and sensors, customers must have the Amazon Go app installed in their phones. The app is used to enter the store but can remain in the user's pocket or purse thereafter. Merchandise is automatically scanned when removed from the shelf and again when put back on the shelf if people change their mind. When finished shopping, customers just walk out the door, and purchases are added up and charged to their account automatically. There are no cash registers and no lines. See Amazon Dash Cart and Amazon.com.

The First Amazon Go Store
In January 2018, the first Amazon Go opened in Seattle at 7th Avenue and Blanchard. A relatively small grocery store (1,800 square feet), it was designed for fast in and out. (Image courtesy of Amazon.com.)
