Services)  Electromagnetic spectrum sold to carriers by the FCC in 2006.  It uses the 1710-1755 and 2110-2155 MHz bands for 3G, 4G, etc. cellular service.  A small part of the MMDS spectrum used for wireless cable was re-allocated to AWS as well (see 
MMDS).
AWS transmits in pairs: the 1700 band is the uplink, and 2100 is the downlink.  Newer mobile devices support AWS, and Verizon has branded its LTE service in the AWS band as "XLTE."
