Definition: AI washing

An inflated or false claim that AI is powering a product. In order to promote sales, the mid-2020s gave rise to an abundance of AI washing, reminiscent of both the nanotechnology and dot-com hype in the late 1990s (see dot-com bubble and nano hype).
