Definition: Bluetooth audio

Transmitting stereo signals via the Bluetooth protocol from a smartphone, tablet or other audio source to a powered sound system (boombox, stereo receiver, car system, etc.). Bluetooth audio is officially the Advanced Audio Distribution Profile (A2DP), and it differs from the Bluetooth transmission commonly used from cellphones to headsets (see Bluetooth profiles).

A2DP transmits at 229 or 328 Kbps, which is considerably lower than CD-quality. However, other Bluetooth codecs offer higher quality (see aptX and LDAC). See Bluetooth speaker, AAC, MP3, SBC and Wi-Fi audio.

Commercial Products
Countless Bluetooth audio products have been marketed as Bluetooth Wireless Audio such as this line of headsets from Tzumi.
