Definition: blockchain interoperability

To transfer assets from one blockchain to another. Blockchains are independent networks that accept transactions from crypto exchanges, crypto wallets and DeFi applications (dApps). They also accept summary transactions from auxiliary networks that are architected as "sidechains" and "Layer 2 blockchains." However, blockchain interoperability, also known as "cross-chain interoperability," implies that major blockchains such as Bitcoin and Ethereum are able to communicate directly with each other. See THORChain, IBC, sidechain and Layer 2 network.
