(GlobalFoundries Inc., Malta, NY) GlobalFoundries was created by the spin-off of AMD's chip manufacturing in 2009. It is the largest pure-play semiconductor fab headquartered in the U.S. with plants in New York, Vermont, Singapore and Germany. GlobalFoundries became privately owned by Mubadala Investment Company, a soverign wealth fund of the United Arab Emirates (UAE) until 2021, when it became a public company. However, Mubadala retains majority ownership.
GlobalFoundries/TSMC Lawsuit
In 2019, GlobalFoundries sued Taiwanese Semiconductor Manufacturing Corporation (TSMC) for patent infringement. TSMC countersued, and both parties resolved their dispute by agreeing to honor each other's patents. See
