Let me help you learn the field
Hello. I’m Alan Freedman, and I’ve been writing CDE for 36 years. It’s lasted that long, because I try hard to make the explanations easy to read.
I’ve taught computer literacy to thousands of people using a set of simple concepts, and those fundamentals are a continuous thread in CDE, whether describing a complex IT technology or a smartphone.
In addition, wherever I can, I highlight the way terms are used and misused, so you can learn the lingo or talk more comfortably with your IT people. And if they can’t speak to you in a language you understand, ask them to read CDE.
Here’s a promise. If you find a definition confusing, tell me what part you don’t understand, and I’ll clear it up for you. You’ll help me make CDE better, and I’ll help you figure out something.
Good luck and happy computing!
